BGE statement on Maryland Public Service Commission order on the BGE Multi-Year Customer Relief and Energy Infrastructure Investment Plan

Statement from BGE CEO Carim Khouzami:

"The PSC order is a good outcome for energy customers, accepting our proposal to hold bills flat in 2021, while still enabling significant investments in improving the safety and reliability of the natural gas and electric systems and the overall customer experience. These investments include hundreds of energy infrastructure projects and maintenance programs over the next several years that will have an estimated economic benefit of $15.3 billion for the local economy and will support more than 26,000 jobs. Holding bills flat next year and driving economic development and supporting critical infrastructure jobs will greatly assist with Maryland’s economic recovery efforts. At the same time, the region’s power grid and natural gas system will be stronger for it. We look forward to working with the PSC to ensure a successful implementation of Maryland’s first-ever multi-year plan.

"Additionally, we are announcing today that we are pledging $15 million to assist small businesses with COVID-19 relief and recovery. Starting in January 2021, eligible businesses located in BGE’s central Maryland service area can begin applying for BGE Energizing Small Business Grants of up to $20,000 each. This is in addition to BGE’s comprehensive efforts to support Marylanders during the COVID-19 pandemic that have included an additional $1.5 million contribution to the Fuel Fund of Maryland, $1 million in funding to county-administered business pandemic relief funds, expansion of BGE’s Workforce Collaborative infrastructure academy to train approximately 600 local residents for job placement over the next three years, and extending flexible payment arrangement plans to help qualifying customers to maintain their electric and gas service. BGE and the Exelon companies in Maryland directed $1.25 million to Maryland relief organizations, including the Maryland Food Bank, United Way of Central Maryland, PCs for People, and the Baltimore Community Foundation. The Energizing Small Business Grants program and all nonprofit contributions are made using shareholder dollars and are not reflected in customer bills."
