BGE is Maryland's largest natural gas and electric utility, and one of the 25 largest private employers in the state with approximately 3,200 employees. BGE delivers safe and reliable power to more than 1.25 million electric customers and more than 650,000 natural gas customers, across an economically and geographically diverse 2,300-square-mile area in central Maryland.
In its most recent study on BGE's Economic Impact on the Service Area, the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore (EAGB) estimated BGE's impact from General Operations to be nearly $5.4 billion of output, more than 11,200 jobs, and more than $1 billion in labor income. These estimates account for BGE's direct economic contributions, as well as the indirect and induced economic activity. EAGB also found that BGE's ongoing energy management programs and charitable giving have a positive economic impact on our communities.
