BGE and Other Exelon Companies Play Charity Football to Raise Money for United Way Ryan Klebe (Designer III, Design Services, Gas Projects, Baltimore Gas & Electric): “Today marks the 6th annual United Way Tournament of Champions the benefit Central Maryland United Way. Everybody's gonna play safe. We're stressing absolutely no contact. You can't go through the ball to get to anybody. You want a high-flying offensive affair, fine. Everybody has a good time.” Sam Modico (Engineer, Gas Distribution Planning, Baltimore Gas & Electric): “We have nine teams this year and right around 200 people that have come out. They're all company people so it's just a chance for us to give back to the community, raise some money and get to know more coworkers. You know, spend some time, be a little competitive but it's all in good fun. It's a nice easy way for us to raise money and spend time out here in the community, and hopefully just raise awareness for United Way.” Ryan Klebe: “In Field One, we have team PeptoBismobile versus Access Denied.” [Scene shows team of Exelon employees getting ready to play.] MaryBeth Hyland (Director, Emerging Leaders United, United Way of Central Maryland): “The United Way of Central Maryland is Baltimore City and the five surrounding counties. And what we do in that region is we make sure that we're changing the odds for people that are facing the highest risk in our communities. So we’re making sure people that are in poverty in situations, where they really need that support, United Way is there to step in and provide funding to programs that are really helping out that demographic in our community.” Rob Biagiotti (VP, Gas Distribution, Baltimore Gas & Electric): “This has been a very popular event. It's been a very worthwhile event over the last five years. We've raised a little over $50,000 towards the campaign and this year we're really hoping to get about $10,000, which will be matched 50%. Each dollar raised here, the company also puts in 50%.” MaryBeth Hyland: “Constellation, BGE, Exelon, all the above –they do amazing events throughout the year. Not just fundraising events, but they are volunteers all year round for making sure that they're giving manpower in addition to their funds and making the community a better place.” Rob Biagiotti: “So this is one of many different activities, probably one of our larger ones. And it really is growing every year.” Rob Key (Home Comfort Install Permits Department, BGE Home): “Our team raised roughly almost $1,500. Each team member, of course, is giving. You have a minimum of $35 to donate, but everyone is has given a lot more.” Kathleen Mckitish (Engineer, Gas & Electric Work Procedures, Baltimore Gas & Electric): “We also went out and asked for sponsors through family, through friends, things like that as a way to try and raise even more money.” Rob Key: “Our address is 1409 Tangier Drive so our goal was to get $1,409 for the United Way. We made it.” Sarah Fuller (Senior Administrative Assistant, Baltimore Gas & Electric): “I scored a touchdown today! I was so shocked. I was like, did I score? And they’re like, look at you scored. I was really excited. It's awesome, this is my first year and I can't wait to do it next year again.” Kathleen Mckitish: “This game we’re up 30 to zero at halftime so we're really doing good. I've had quite a few team members get some really nice picks out there and made some really awesome blocks.” MaryBeth Hyland: “So I am really excited because I'm specifically here as the director of our young professionals affinity group called Emerging Leaders United, which is all about making sure that the next generation of leaders are involved in engaging the community. We are about to do the halftime tug-of-war for United Way of Central Maryland Emerging Leaders United.” [Scene shows Exelon employees playing tug of war.] Sam Modico: “We've been a couple different places and I know in the future they're looking to make the tournament a little bit bigger, potentially expand it out to the whole city so that we can get more of the Greater Baltimore area. We're supporting the United Way of Central Maryland and we want to get more companies involved. A bigger tournament, more festivities, that’s more stuff for the community to get out here and see what's going on.” MaryBeth Hyland: “Anybody who is interested in learning more about United Way of Central Maryland can visit our website which is uwcm.org.”
