BGE Smart Energy Rewards® is a voluntary program that helps you earn credits on your summer electricity bills. All BGE customers with a smart meter are eligible to participate. There's no enrollment required and no obligation to participate!

An Energy Savings Day is typically a very hot summer day when energy demand is high. Simply reduce your electric use on BGE Energy Savings Days and save. Read Energy Savings Day tips.

How it works

We'll notify you.

BGE will notify you by phone, email, text, or mobile app alert before the start of a BGE Energy Savings Day. To ensure you receive these notifications, log into BGE.COM/MyAccount to update your email address and phone number and select your how you would like to be notified..
Reduce your use.

Between 1 pm - 7 pm on an Energy Savings Day, simply use less electricity by reducing air conditioning use, delaying the use of large appliances or turning off lights. The power to save energy and money is yours.
Earn rewards.

Within a few days, we'll notify you by phone, email, text, or push to let you know how much you saved. You'll earn bill credits of $1.25 for every kilowatt-hour saved compared to your typical usage. Your BGE Smart Energy Rewards credits will appear on your next BGE bill. Smart Energy Rewards credits vary depending on the amount of electricity you reduce on Energy Savings Days. To learn what your typical electricity usage is, log into your BGE online account or the BGE Mobile app and click “View My Usage” under the My Usage tab. If you’re on the mobile app, you will find the “Usage” tab at the bottom of your screen.

Where to Find How Much You Saved!

The fastest way to find your savings is through the BGE Mobile App! Your savings can be found in the “Smart Energy Rewards” section located under the “Usage” tab. Don’t have the app? (insert link)
Log onto to your BGE online account and select the “View My Energy Savings” tab located in the home page to find your savings.
Credits will appear as “Smart Energy Rewards” on your following summer BGE bill after an Energy Savings Day event.

Why BGE created this program
The BGE Smart Energy Rewards program was designed to encourage customers to use less electricity during summer peak hours when energy demand is high. Managing summer peak demand helps to reduce the need for additional power plants, keeps down the overall cost of electricity, and eases the burden on Maryland's electricity delivery system as our state's population continues to grow.

Customers should exercise discretion and consider health impacts when reducing electricity. This program supports the EmPOWER Maryland Energy Efficiency Act.
