Customer bills will increase effective with usage starting on Feb. 1, 2022 and as authorized by the Maryland Public Service Commission will be partially reduced by certain tax benefits. With the rate adjustment and offsets approved by the PSC, the average residential electric bill will increase by $3.28 per month and the average residential natural gas bill will increase by $2.40 per month. There are many ways to reduce your electricity usage during an Energy Savings Day, but the most impactful savings tip is to raise the temperature on your thermostat, BGE recommends 78ºF. If you are a PeakRewards participant, your air conditioner is automatically cycled up to 50% during Energy Savings Days. You also have the opportunity to earn bill credits when you take additional steps to reduce your electricity usage during an Energy Savings Day. Connected Rewards℠
BGE customers with a smart thermostat are eligible to participate in the Connected Rewards program and receive $100 during their first year. Connected Rewards program participants will have their thermostat raised up to four degrees during Energy Savings Days. These customers can earn bill credits if they take additional actions to reduce their energy usage during the Energy Savings Day.
Participants will also have their thermostat raised up four degrees during Connected Rewards Adjustment Events. These events could last up to six hours and are usually scheduled during warmer days during the summer. BGE expects to call up to 15 Adjustment Events each summer. Connected Rewards participants' homes will be precooled for up to 90 minutes before the event starts to ensure their home stays comfortable for the duration of the Adjustment Event.
