The Energizing Student Potential Program is "STEM project-based," combining classroom activities with a school energy audit by students, a student-run energy fair and an energy-focused STEM challenge as well as numerous opportunities for energy speakers, career connections and expanded STEM resources for the classroom. Students learn about all energy sources, electricity generation, climate science, energy efficiency and energy careers and share their knowledge with others.
BGE and the Exelon Foundation, in partnership with the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project, offer local schools the Energizing Student Potential (ESP), a STEM-focused energy program for grades 3 – 8. This program brings together standards-based curriculum for use by educators and afterschool program leaders throughout the BGE service area. The program is also perfect for youth advocacy organizations with afterschool or weekend programs for youth.
Energizing Student Potential is a collaborative educational initiative designed to empower students to explore opportunities in STEM fields and help them discover their own path to innovation through a variety of classroom subjects. ESP is designed to help educators bring energy into the school and to provide all the tools and resources necessary for students and educators to learn together, explore energy together, and teach their local communities about energy while learning about energy careers as well. Teacher Training Workshops on a variety of energy topics – including the Science of Energy, Forms and Transformations, Energy Sources, Electricity, Transportation, Climate Science, Energy Efficiency and Energy Careers.

BGE sponsors virtual learning robots, through the Digital Classroom 2.0 program.
Through the program and the guidance of the county school system’s Home and Hospital Teaching team, a virtual learning robot can be offered to a student who is expected to be out of school for at least two months or who is going to be out of school several times each week due to a medical condition or treatment. Grant funding is available for one virtual learning robot per county within BGE’s service area. Interested education foundation representatives should visit BGE.com/Giving to apply.

BGE's Smart Energy Academy partners with elementary schools to provide fun interactive lessons on electricity and hands-on learning kits that power students to be super energy savers! Lumi, BGE’s virtual energy coach, guides students along the way.
The energy efficiency education easily integrates into existing teaching curriculum because BGE's Smart Energy Academy offers teachers STEM-focused kits with program content and lesson plans that meet Maryland State Learning Standards. At no additional cost, students within our service territory in grade 5 will receive a learning kit full of energy efficiency materials to use at home, an activities workbook, fun questionnaires, and more. Students can inspire their families to adopt new energy-saving and money-saving habits at home.
