SUSTAINABLE JOBS

Workforce Development Program

  • BGE's high school internship program is focused on providing hands-on experience to students pursuing a technical trade, including automotive, electrical engineering, carpentry, computer-aided design, construction, plumbing, and welding. Since 2016, 200+ students have participated, and 15 interns have been hired into fulltime roles at BGE.
  • BGE's Workforce Collaborative is a job training program for under or unemployed adults interested in a utility career. The program provides construction labor training, job readiness and related skills training to prepare graduates with the skills needed to begin a career in construction. Since 2019, nearly 100 individuals have graduated from the program with over 90% receiving job offers as a result of their participation.

COMMUNITY COLLABORATION

Connecting our Communities & Customers

  • BGE is partnering with communities such as Annapolis and the Johnston Square neighborhood in Baltimore City to develop grid-connected technologies which include smart building system controls, energy storage, smart streetlights, EV charging, wireless internet, cybersecurity, and communications.

Environmental Stewardship

  • BGE continues to preserve and improve the quality of the environment through our ongoing sustainability initiatives.
  • BGE's industry-leading Integration Vegetation Management program eliminates lawnmower emissions on nearly 1,500 acres of our transmission line corridors, which then promotes insect pollination, bird migration, and a sustainable habitat.
  • BGE has also invested $2 million+ through its Green Grants program to support non-profit environmental stewardship projects in central Maryland.

Support for Emissions-Mitigating Initiatives

  • BGE works closely with the state of Maryland and local jurisdictions to support government-led efforts that could reduce emissions. This includes Maryland Public Service Commission initiatives that resulted in the development of BGE's EVsmart program, battery storage pilots, support for electrifying school buses, exploration of microgrids, etc. BGE also supports the development of thoughtful clean energy policies at all levels of government.
