If you already have a gas main running down your street, you may be eligible to have the gas service line installed to your house at no cost to you.
Eligible customers will get the following:

Once the service line and meter are installed, all standard residential gas rates and charges, including the fixed $14 monthly Customer Charge , will apply. Yes! Natural gas costs less to use than other major home energy sources. For example, by converting to natural gas, you can save over $500 in annual home heating costs, while increasing your comfort.*

How much does the gas service installation cost?
A BGE Natural Gas Design Expert will determine the cost of your gas service installation. Several factors determine the price, including your proximity to a gas main, the distance from a gas main to your house, and any obstacles that need to be cleared or worked around. There will also be a $40 Service Application Charge, and you are responsible for all internal piping and appliance costs.
If you already have a gas main running down your street, you may be able to get the gas service line installed for free.
How long does it take to have the service line installed?
If you already have a gas main running down your street, it normally takes 12 to 16 weeks to design and install a service line. If a gas main has to be installed in your neighborhood, it can take several months.
Either way, we think you’ll agree that it’s worth the wait, once you start enjoying the many benefits of natural gas.
Will I have to obtain permits for the work being completed on my property?
BGE will obtain all the necessary permits to install your natural gas service line outside your home. However, your HVAC Contractor will be responsible for obtaining any permits or inspections necessary for work performed inside your home.
Will you dig up my driveway or sidewalk? If so, who is responsible for restoration?
When conditions allow, the construction crew installing a gas service line will use a device that burrows through the ground and surfaces right next to your home. However, it’s possible that your street, driveway, sidewalk, or yard may need to be dug up to install the gas service.
If so, the construction crew will backfill and restore any excavation done on these areas.
Will BGE install my natural gas appliances?
BGE does not install natural gas equipment or appliances. You will need to contact an HVAC contractor or plumber to purchase and install your natural gas appliances.
How do I know what delivery pressure is required for my equipment and appliances?
BGE offers two residential gas delivery pressures, known as “standard” and “two-pound” service. Your designated delivery pressure will be determined after discussions between you, the BGE Natural Gas Design Expert, and your contractor.
May I determine where the natural gas meter is located?
BGE will make a good faith effort to install the meter at the location you choose, but the meter location must meet certain BGE installation requirements. Your BGE Natural Gas Design Expert will explain these requirements to you when a site visit is conducted of your property. However, one thing to keep in mind is that meters cannot be located at the rear of the property or indoors.
What if my property is not located near a main?
If you are not located near a natural gas main, and there are other neighbors on your street or development who also want to convert to natural gas, call 800-233-1854 to learn more about our Neighborhood Conversion Program.
I may add a pool heater or generator in the future. Are there any special requirements I need to consider?
A pool heater or generator may require additional capacity on your service line or meter, so you should alert your BGE Natural Gas Design Expert and your contractor that you may add this equipment in the future. This will enable the service line and meter to be sized appropriately. There may be an additional charge to connect non-standard equipment such as a pool heater or generator.
