Customer bills will increase effective with usage starting on Feb. 1, 2022 and as authorized by the Maryland Public Service Commission will be partially reduced by certain tax benefits. With the rate adjustment and offsets approved by the PSC, the average residential electric bill will increase by $3.28 per month and the average residential natural gas bill will increase by $2.40 per month. BGE owns and operates electric transmission lines that are part of the regional transmission system that transports electricity into, out of, and through the BGE service area. Currently, one segment of BGE's transmission system, which crosses under the Patapsco River next to the Francis Scott Key Bridge, is nearing the end of its useful life. The scope of BGE's Key Crossing Reliability Initiative Transmission Line Project is to replace this segment between Hawkins Point in Baltimore City and Sollers Point in Baltimore County.

BGE has identified the need to replace wood poles along a two-mile segment of transmission line with distribution attached, between Westfield-Annapolis Mall and the Cedar Park substation.

BGE routinely inspects its infrastructure and upgrades components when necessary to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of power. Beginning in early September 2020 and continuing through November 2020, BGE will perform preventative maintenance on underground electric cable located beneath Reisterstown Road (MD 140). This work is part of an ongoing reliability project in the area.
Site preparation and maintenance activities will continue on a 24-hour schedule, for approximately 90 days. Modifications to current traffic operations are required along northbound MD 140 (Reisterstown Road) at its junction with Harden Avenue. BGE will implement the following traffic modifications along MD 140 between MD 130 (Greenspring Valley Road) and Montrose Avenue:

BGE's investment in its transmission line between the Lipins Corner and Naval Academy Junction substations is part of the company's ongoing commitment to providing safe, reliable delivery of energy to customers. Transmission lines are the backbone of the electric system and supply power to distribution lines, which deliver energy to customers' homes and businesses.
This project includes the replacement of six miles of overhead transmission lines and poles (see nearby photo simulation example). Work is being conducted within the existing transmission corridor. No new transmission right of way will be required and the entire project will be constructed on BGE property. Work is scheduled to begin in late 2019 and should be completed in 2021.

This site, bounded by Hillen Rd., Wellbourne Rd. and Sherwood Ave. in Baltimore, was selected and purchased for a new electric distribution facility, known as the Loch Raven Electric Facility. It will reliably distribute electric power to the homes and businesses in the area. BGE will maintain a fenced, secure location at this site until construction begins soon. BGE worked closely with Baltimore City and community stakeholders to select the new location that will help ensure continued electric service reliability. BGE is working on a project that will increase the reliability of the energy grid. As part of this project, BGE is installing new equipment underground from Westport Substation to the site of the future Wilkens Substation. This equipment will run along parts of Cedley Street, Kent Street and Hollins Ferry Road before crossing under Washington Blvd., I-95, Carroll Park Golf Course and linking to a new electric facility near Wilkens Avenue and S. Catherine Street. In addition to adding durable new equipment to keep pace with customers' electric usage, the project will make it possible to more quickly re-route power in the event of an outage. The project which began in summer 2018, will continue through 2019 and is scheduled for completion in late 2019.
On sections of streets where work is occurring, you can expect to see construction crews excavating the pavement (roadway and sections of sidewalk) to install underground equipment and manholes. This work will require some temporary road and lane closures, parking restrictions, and additional temporary traffic signals and signage to regulate traffic in work zones. All work zones will be clearly marked and managed. For your safety and the safety of BGE employees and contractors, please use caution around utility work zones.

We are beginning a project to upgrade the electric system serving the Wilkens Ave. corridor and southwest Baltimore. A new electric distribution facility is being constructed on BGE property off Wilkens Avenue between S. Catherine Street and S. Bentalou Street. The new substation facility will transform electricity from higher voltages used to move it from power plants at great distances to lower voltages used in homes, schools and businesses. This facility will also be connected to other electric facilities with new underground equipment (see Westport to Wilkens Electric Reliability Project) that will make it possible for BGE to re-route power quickly during outages due to storms or other causes. Doing so will help BGE improve service to you by reducing the frequency and duration of outages. During construction, there will be increased activity and vehicles at the construction location near South Catherine Street and South Bentalou Streets. We will work to minimize construction disruption as much as possible. We expect to be working throughout the remainder of 2019, with the new facility becoming operational at the end of 2019. BGE has identified the need to upgrade a half-mile segment of overhead electric distribution line in Howard County, Maryland along All Saints Road, between Route 216 and Old Scaggsville Road.
This project will be completed in two phases:
Phase one will include the installation of a short section of an underground electric cable at Old Scaggville Road, the replacement of 15 wood poles on All Saints Road, and the installation of three new wood poles on All Saints Road. Construction for phase one is expected to begin in November 2021 and continue through February 2022, weather permitting.
Phase two will include the installation of new underground electric circuits at the intersection of Route 216 and All Saints Road and is expected to begin construction in spring 2022. We will provide more information on phase two closer to the start of construction.
Most construction will take place Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. with extended hours as needed. There may be occasional weekend work. Additionally, BGE may trim trees near overhead electric lines to further the reliability of the overhead electric lines.
